Tokudaiji Sanehisa (徳大寺実久)

Sanehisa TOKUDAIJI (October 1, 1583 - January 3, 1617) was a Court noble from the Azuchi-Momoyama period to the Edo period. He mainly worked at the Imperial court for Emperor Goyosei (107th) and Emperor Gomizunoo (108th) and moved up to Jusanmi Chunagon (Junior Third Rank, vice-councilor of state). His real father was Sadaijin (Minister of the Left) Sadahiro KAZANIN. His mother was a daughter of Naidaijin (Minister of the Center) Kinfusa TOKUDAIJI. His wife was a daughter of Udaijin (Minister of the Right) Nobunaga ODA, Getsumyoin. His son was Sadaijin (Minister of the Left) Kinnobu TOKUDAIJI, and his daughter was the wife of Tadamasa WADA. His pseudonym was Seiunin.

Being the grandson of Kinfusa TOKUDAIJI, he was adopted by Kunfusa to carry on the name of TOKUDAIJI. In 1586, he was awarded the rank of Jugoinojo (Junior Fifth Rank, Upper Grade). After that he moved up successively and became jiju (a chamberlain) in 1587. In 1589, he celebrated his coming of age and was appointed to the Konoefu (Inner Palace Guards) in 1598. In 1600, he was promoted to Jushiinojo (Junior Fourth Rank, Upper Grade). However, in 1609, he was punished by Imperial order together with Mitsuhiro KARASUMARU, Yorikuni OINOMIKADO and Noritoshi INOKUMA because of scandalous affairs (the Inokuma incident). In 1611, they were pardoned and attended at the court again.

In 1612, he became Shoshiinoge (Senior Fourth Rank, Lower Grade), and on February 25, 1613, he was awarded the rank of Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank), ranking with Kugyo (high court noble). In 1614, he became Chunagon (vice-councilor of state). In 1615, he served as Toka no sechie Geben (a Kugyo who supervised many matters outside Jomei Gate at Toka no sechie, Imperial Court Ceremony), but died in 1616. Died at the age of 34.
